BMW has launched the new 2011 X5 in the Indian market at an event held at Bird Automotive, company’s dealership facility in Gurgaon.

The new X5 has been launched as a CBU and will be available in two variants – BMW X5 xDrive50i Petrol and the X5 xDrive30d Diesel. BMW has started taking bookings for the new X5 while the deliveries will commence from October onwards.

The petrol X5 xDrive50i is powered by a TwinPower turbo direct injected V8 engine delivering 407 bhp of maximum power and a whopping 600 nm of maximum torque from 1750-4500 rpm. The petrol model accelerates from 0-100 kph in just 5.5 seconds.

The X5 xDrive30d comes powered by an all aluminium TwinPower turbo 6 cylinder common rail direct injection diesel engine with 245 bhp of maximum power  and 540 nm of maximum torque between 1750-3000 rpm. The diesel model accelerates from 0-100 kph in just 7.6 seconds while at the same time delivering 13.5 kmpl of fuel economy.

All variants comes with an 8-Speed automatic transmission and brake energy regenration system for maximum possible efficiency. Other features include speed sensitive Servotronic steering system, latest generation iDrive control system and all sorts of driver aids to make driving pleasurable and safe.

The new 2011 X5 has been priced at:

BMW X5 xDrive50i : Rs. 69,50,000/-
BMW  xDrive30d : Rs. 52,99,000/-

and will be available in Alpine White (non-metallic), Black Sapphire, Space Grey, Titanium Silver Platinum Bronze and 3 new metallic colors Deep Sea Blue, Platinum Grey and Sparkling Bronze.

The company has also announced that it will enter the used car business by the end of this year.

We have already showed you the high quality renderings of the upcoming 2012 BMW M5 F10, now feast your eyes on the spy shots of the interiors which have been snapped for the first time. These spy shots come to you courtesy a member from E39 Forums.

The car in pictures features leather upholstery, Alcantara headliner, aluminium trims and a revised instrument console with a greatly reduced redline which confirms the existence of a turbo’d engine. The engine under the hood is expected to be the 4.4 Liter Twin Turbo V8 from the X5 M and the X6 M but with 600 bhp instead of  just 547 bhp’s.

The detailed spy shots also for the first time cover the car is so much detail which includes wheels, outside rear view mirrors, trunk spoiler with just a bit of camouflage remaining which means its almost production ready.

The new BMW M5 will make its public debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.

A recall has been issued for the 2010 2011 BMW 5-Series and 5-Series GT models to rectify fuel level sensor issue which makes it indicate more fuel than it actually is in the fuel tank.

The fuel level sensor in the tank can become wedged against the tank sidewalls which makes it display larger amount of fuel than it actually is in the fuel tank. The recall has been revealed on NHTSA’s website which also mentions that the issue isn’t extremely dangerous but if the tank becomes empty, there is a danger of the vehicle stalling increasing the risk of a crash.

A total of 6080 units manufactured through January 12 to July 1, 2010 have been affected. BMW is yet to announce an official recall but expect it to be done very shortly. The BMW 5-Series has been launched just recently in the Indian market and isnt affected. The F10 5-Series is turning out to be a best seller with the car sold out across markets.

World’s largest luxury car maker BMW has reportedly sold out the latest iteration of the 5-Series F10 sedan launched just recently forcing buyers to wait for three to four months for deliveries.

The new sedan, which shares almost 70% of its components with the bigger 7-Series, has been a huge hit for the company. According to company officials, the new 5-Series will constitute as much as 15% to 17%  of total BMW sales in the US.

The competition is only going to be intense for the 5-Series F10 as E Class continues to do well for Mercedes Benz and Audi prepares for the launch of the next generation A6 next year.

BMW is planning to offer a long wheelbase version of the 3-Series sedan for the Chinese market.

The new LWB 3-Series will compete with the hugely successful Audi A4L, the extended wheelbase version of the smallest Audi saloon in the lineup. The new BMW 3 Series LWB will be built at a brand new plant in the Shengyang economic zone its Chinese partner Brilliance Auto.

The new factory will have an installed capacity of manufacturing 100,000 units a year and will be ready by 2012 according to the Chairman of Brilliance Auto, Qi Yu Min. The new plant will also manufacture the X1 crossover which would also be launched in India shortly.

With the new factory in place, the BMW and Brilliance Auto alliance will be able to manufacture 300,000 cars a year in China with upto 60% parts sourced locally. The plant will also manufacture the soon to be launched X1 crossover.

BMW expects its sales to grow to 1,20,000 cars in China by 2012 which also means that the excess capacity of the plants will be used for exports.

Instead of updating our previous post on the launch of the new BMW 5 Series F10 today, we have created this new post in which we will post the pricing details for the ease of our readers.

The new 2011 BMW 5 Series F10 has been launched in 4 variants of which only the 535i will be available as of now. The 535d will come in next followed by 525d and 523i later this year around November/December timeframe.

The range topping petrol 535i and the 530d will come with 8-Speed sports automatic transmission while the lower end 523i and the 525d will come with plain vanilla 8-Speed automatic transmission.

As we told you earlier, BMW have launched the all new 5 Series F10 in India at a ceremony held in Mumbai. The car has been launched in four variants – 523i and 535i petrol and 525d and 530d diesel which are powered by straight six engines.

First up are the petrol variants – 523i and the 535i. The 535i is powered by a 2979 cc all aluminium DOHC  engine with double VANOS  technology topped by twin scroll turbochargers and direct fuel injection technology to deliver 306 bhp of maximum power and 400 nm of maximum torque. The particular engine consumes just 8.5 litres of gasoline per 100 kilometers. The 523i features Alusil cylinders and magnesium crankcase making it one of the lightest six cylinder engine in its class and delivers 204  bhp of maximum power  and fuel consumption of just 7.6 litres per 100 kilometers.

The two diesels 530d and 525d make use of the latest in diesel engine technology with third generation common rail direct injection system which disperses fuel under a pressure of 1800 bar. The resulting extremely small drops of fuel make the combustion smoother and more efficient while also delivering more power and torque. The straight six engine fed by variable intake geometry turbocharger under the hood of 530d develops a maximum 245 bhp of power and a mammoth 540 nm of maximum torque at a low 1750 rpm! The engine consumes 6.2 litres of diesel every 100 kilometers and accelerates from 0-100 kph in just 6.3 seconds! The 525d develops a modest 204 bhp of maximum power and 430 nm of maximum torque taking 7.2 seconds for the sprint to 100 kph.

Other highlights include the first for its segment 8-speed steptronic automatic transmission and the brake energy regeneration system.

The brake energy regeneration system converts kinetic energy into electrical energy as soon as the driver takes his foot of the accelerator by engaging a generator. The system disengages the generator once the battery is fully charged to unburden the engine which reduces emissions and fuel consumption. The saving also means that more power is available for acceleration.

The 8-speed automatic transmission was previously available only with the 7-series, now also find a space in the new 5 series f10. The additional gears reduce the engine’s rev interval between shifts keeping it within the ideal rev range helping performance and efficiency both.

Comfort and convenience features include the new improved  iDrive system with a 7 inch display that has direct buttons for frequently used functions  like entertainment system, telephone and music system. The favorite keys enable you to save settings  such as radio stations, destinations and telephone numbers.  The rear seat passengers havent been left out, featuring a comprehensive entertainment system with two adjustable 8 inch screen at the back. Each monitor can be connected to additional devices such as laptops and games consoles while two DAB tuners and DVB receiver ensure consistent and high quality reception of TV and Radio signals.

BMW has surprised everyone by unveiling the Concept Gran Coupe which the automaker calls a four door coupe at the ongoing Beijing Motor Show.

The concept looks almost production ready and is BMW’s asnwer to the competition from the next generation Mercedes Benz CLS, Porsche Panamera and the upcoming Audi A7. The car could sport a 8-Series monikor on the boot creating a whole new segment for the Bavarian automaker.

Loosely based on the aggressive 2007 Concept CS, the Gran Coupe is five meters long and has a lot body height of just 1400 mm making it upto 100 mm flatter when compared to the already low 5-Series and the 7-Series. The car sure has powerful presence with a sporty flat silhouette and striking dynamic proportions, something which BMW mentions in its press release.

Although we dont have any powertrain details, the 4.4 litre twin turbo V8 with 408 ps could find its way into that long bonnet along with the range toppping 6.0 litre V12 with 544 PS from the BMW 760Li but it may just turn out to be wishful thinking.

Competition is always good and its even better when the German giants are slugging it out.

BMW has pre-poned the launched of the all new 5-Series F10 in India by a couple of months. The car will now be launched on the 30th of April instead of the July 2010 launch date announced by BMW earlier.

Mercedes Benz has taken the lead from BMW in the executive luxury car market with the new E-Class outselling the BMW 5-Series by a ration of two to one and has also launched the Coupe variant recently. Keep to claw back its lost market share, BMW wants to launch the new 5-Series as soon as possible.

Its not yet clear which models of the new 5-Series will be launched but rumours point at 535i and the 530d. The new 5-Series will be launched as a CKD and the chennai plant has already been altered to assemble the new model.

BMW is clearing the current stock of the 5-Series by selling them at heavy discounts. If you are fan of the ‘Bangle styling’ and like your 5-Series to be more driver oriented, rush to the nearest BMW dealer to get your hands on the current one before they are sold out!

BMW sales are on an overdrive in India. The company sold a staggering 298 units of the 3-Series in March helped in no small measure by the recently launched 320d Corporate Edition.

The car was previously available to fleet owners only with a minimum order of atleast three cars but BMW decided to offer the lower priced variant to individual buyers with a few extra’s like the semi-powered seats and price tag which was increased by INR 1 Lakh. The move seems to have paid off in a big way with sales zooming by 157% in March 2010 compared to the same month last year.

BMW has aggressive plans for the Indian market and plans to bring its entire international line-up to Indian shores. July will see the introduction of the all new 5-Series F10 which launched just recently in the International market while the X1 crossover will come to India in December this year priced at INR 25 Lakhs.
