Volkswagen Vento 1.4 In The Works

Buoyed by the success of the Vento, Volkswagen is now looking to explore the lower end of the market by launching a new variant which will be powered by a 1.4 liter petrol engine.

The new variant will compete with the likes of Manza, Aveo, Fiesta and Verna and is expected to be priced atleast Rs 60000 lower than the 1.6 variant. The 1.4 liter four cylinder petrol engine will produce 85 bhp of maximum power and 135 nm of maximum torque and will be more fuel efficient as well.

Test mules have been spotted multiple times going up and down the Pune-Mumbai expressway which indicates the launch is very near. Our sources say that the car will be launched early next year… stay tuned to Autoholiks!

Bugatti ‘Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport’ Drives In At Rs 16 Cr

One of the fastest and most expensive hypercar is in town and it can be your’s for a cool 16 Cr! As we said earlier, Volkswagen Group Co. Bugatti has launched the ‘Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport’ at a starting price of Rs 16 Cr making it the most expensive car on sale right now in India.

“Bugatti has been doing well in America, Europe and the Middle East. Now we see India as an emerging market for us, hence we have decided to bring the car to India,” said Guy Caquelin Bugatti Automobiles Sales Market Manager ( Middle East, Europe and India.

The car will be distributed by company’s only Indian dealer, Exclusive Motors which is also the sole distributor of Bentley and Lamborghini in India.

“The price of the car will be subject to foreign exchange fluctuation and the levels of customization that a buyer demands” said Satya Bangla, Managing Director, Exclusive Motors.

The car will be delivered in around 6-8 months from the date of order.

Bugatti Veyron is powered by a 8 liter Quad Turbo W16 engie delivering 1000 bhp and is capable of doing 0-100 kph in just 2.7 seconds with a top speed on the brighter side of 407 kph!

Volkswagen Vento 0-4000 Bookings In Just Three Weeks!

Volkswagen Vento is off to a flier which will have the competitors worried. Backed by innovative marketing (remember the talking newspaper last tuesday) competitive pricing and a stonking diesel, Vento has garnered 4000 bookings in just three weeks of its launch.

With Polo waiting periods already stretching into weeks, the Vento which will be made at the VW’S Chakan plant is all set to increase the waiting periods even further. The company has already added a second shift at its facility as it struggles hard to cope up with the demand.

VW Vento comes with two engine options – a petrol and diesel each featuring the same engine capacity and same maximum power output of 105 ps! The diesel though trumps the petrol as far as torque stakes are concerned delivering a massive 25.4 kgm compared to petrol’s rather modest 15.5 kgm. The diesel and petrol come with 5-speed manual gearbox while the petrol also comes with an optional 6-speed DSG gearbox. The ARAI rated fuel efficiency for the petrol Vento is 15.83 kmpl and 14.4 kmpl for the manual and automatic respectively while the diesel is rated at an impressive 20.54 kmpl.

VW wants Alfa Romeo, Fiat Unwilling To Sell

Volkswagen is on a buying spree now a days that would help its ambition of becoming the biggest automaker on the planet by displacing Toyota Motor co. as No. 1

According to reports from Automotive News Europe, Volkswagen is keen to buy Fiat’s troubled sporty brand Alfa Romeo. The report has been confirmed to ANE by two senior executives from VW who did not want to be named. A high-placed Fiat executive on the other hand has told ANE, on condition of anonymity that “We have no intention of selling the brand to VW”.

Fiat has already charted a turnaround plan for Alfa which was announced by CEO Sergio Marchionne in April this year. The plan hopes to turn Alfa Romeo into a “full line premium car maker” selling 500,000 units by 2014 helped by six new model launches one of which, the Giulietta, has already been launched.

VW CEO Martin Winterkorn had told reporters in April that he admired Alfa but said VW group is in the middle of taking over Porsche and is not planning to add another brand.

Volkswagen lately has developed serious appetite for anything Italian. The company recruited from top Alfa executives Walter de’ Silva as its design chief and Luca De Meo as marketing boss. It also owns Italian supercar brand Lamborghini and took a 90 percent stake in Italdesign Giugiaro earlier this year.

The VW Vento has been priced very competitively!

Volkswagen India have announced the pricing of Vento sedan today at a launch ceremony held specially for motoring journalists in Jaipur today. The car has been launched at a very competitive INR 6.99 Lakhs for the 1.6 liter petrol Trendline and INR 7.99 Lakhs for the 1.6 liter diesel Trendline model.

The car was revealed in India in July where the company hadn’t disclosed the pricing. The booking for the Vento is already open at your nearest Volkswagen dealer while the deliveries will start from 6th of September 2010.

The Vento is powered by either a 1.6 liter petrol engine which delivers 105 ps of maximum power @ 5250 rpm and a maximum 15.5 kgm of torque @ a relatively low 3800 rpm or a 1.6 liter turbocharged common rail diesel engine which delivers an identical 105 ps of maximum power @ 4400 rpm but whips the petrol with 25.4 kgm of maximum torque between 1500-2500 rpm! The petrol engine is being offered with either a 5-speed manual or an optional 6-speed DSG gearbox while the diesel comes only with manual transmission. ARAI certified fuel economy for the petrol variant is 15.83 kmpl and 14.4 kmpl for manual and automatic variants respectively while diesel has a rated ARAI fuel economy of an impressive 20.54 kmpl.

The Vento will be available in two variants – Trendline and Comfortline for both diesel and petrol while the Automatic variant will come exclusively in Comfortline trim. With its combination of understated looks, through German engineering and quality and ultra competitive price is sure to make this latest VW a big hit in the Indian market. And that it has a market busting diesel under the hood makes the deal even sweeter…. Honda City should be worried, very worried!

Volkswagen July Sales @ 2597 Units

The numbers from Volkswagen have just come in. The company has clocked total sales of 2,597 units in the month of July 2010.

On a month on month basis, Volkswagen Jetta has shown a growth of 36% and the Passat 67% in July 2010 as compared to July 2009

On a year on year basis, Volkswagen Jetta has increased by 68% and the Passat 101% in Jan- July 2010 as compared to Jan – July 2009.

The Volkswagen Iconic New Beetle continued its growth path with customer deliveries reaching at 301 units for the period of Jan-July 2010 and the Touareg at 69 units for the same period.

Volkswagen Polo has also received good response with 6618 units delivered already.

Volkswagen Sees Hyundai As Its Biggest Rival In Its Bid To Becomes No. 1

We all know VW’s ambition to topple Toyota as the no. 1 automaker on the planet by 2018 but as it turn out, VW’s CEO Martin Winterkorn no longer considers the Japanese company as its biggest rival.

In what will sound as music to Hyundai’s ears, VW sees the Korean company as its biggest rival in its quest to become the numero uno than Toyota which is struggling with recalls and quality problems lately.

“I have the most respect for Hyundai,” VW CEO Martin Winterkorn told the German news magazine Focus, naming Hyundai’s improved quality and the weakness of the Korean currency as reasons why Hyundai is on his mind. “Hyundai has now learned how to build good cars,” added Winterkorn.

The comments haven’t exactly surprised industry watchers.

“He’s right,” said Stefan Bratzel, who heads an automotive research center at the Bergisch Gladbach University of Applied Sciences in Germany.

“Hyundai has enjoyed enormous growth in sales and profitability in recent years. Toyota should not be forgotten but Hyundai is a very serious rival.”

Bratzel said Hyundai is strong in Asia, especially in India where it is the No. 2 automaker after Suzuki with a 16 percent market share, and in China, where the Korean company is enjoying fast growth.

IHS Automotive auto analyst Ian Fletcher said Hyundai and Kia can now match Japanese automakers for quality. “They are not just building cheap cars. They are building cheap, good cars,” he said.

Are you the one who likes the idea of a big engined hatchback rather than a small engined big saloon? Are you one of those people who liked the Polo but found the 1.2 liter three cylinder engine to be a little underpowered? Worry not.

Volkswagen will launch the Polo 1.6 later in the year but if you want to be the first one to pick the car up, you can book it right away! VW has started taking bookings for the only large engined petrol hot hatch we will have in times to come.

To be launched only in the top of the line highline trim, the Polo 1.6 will come with 105 ps of maximum power @ 5250 rpm and a maximum 153 nm of torque at a relatively low 3750 rpm. The engine is a full three seconds faster to hundred than the plain vanilla Polo and will hit a top whack of 184 kmph!

Volkswagen Patents For Jetta Coupe Revealed!

Thanks to the patent office and carscoop we now know that Volkswagen has filed patents for a New Compact Coupe (or the NCC concept from Detroit Motor show if you remember) based on the Jetta platform.

The car actually looks nice in profile with aggressive front snout and sleek rear end treatment. Jetta base also means that it will be bigger than the Scirocco which also means that its going to be more practical and more usable.
