Suzuki has unveiled the facelifted SX4 sedan for the chinese market. The new SX4 comes with upgraded exterior styling, which now has generous helpings of chrome making it look more upmarket.

The chrome front grille is now larger and sleeker which along with reprofiled headlamps lends the front fascia a more mature, grown up look. The side profile is largely unchanged except for the body colored side moldings. The rear is where Suzuki has concentrated most of its efforts at. Gone is the bulbous looking rear end which is replaced by an overall look which is more lithe and muscular. The boot now has a smart looking ridges at the top which gives the look of a subtle lid spoiler flanked by tail lamps which follow the contours of the lid top. The huge rear bumper has a matte black plastic bottom which not only looks great but also the breaks the monotony of the vast expanse of the plastic.

The SX4 in India has been facelifted very slightly along with upgraded 1.6 liter VVT engine  but will do better to get this as the current styling now appears to be a bit too long in the tooth. Over to you Maruti!

Another proof that Kizashi indeed is coming real soon. We have uncovered the Indian website for the most ambitious model from Suzuki which aims to take the fight to Toyota’s Camry and Honda Accord and also elevate the brand’s image as a maker of well built, nice driving cars.

The website is still under construction but has a fully working specification and highlights section and is also running the international commercial for the car. The Kizashi will come with a 2.4 liter four cylinder engine with VIS developing 185 bhp of maximum power mated to either a manual or optional CVT automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

Other highlights include a high end 10 speaker audio system with digital sound processing, 425 watt amplifier, USB and iPod connectivity and bluetooth connectivity with wiresless audio streaming, dual zone automatic climate control, key less entry with push-button ignition, 8 air bags as standard and braking system components from Akebono known for supplying braking components that stop Japan’s bullet trains!

Its still now known if all the features will make it to the Indian model but given that its Maruti Suzuki’s first launch in the premium sedan segment, we expect it to come fully loaded right from the outset.

These are the clearest spy pictures of the latest and the greatest Suzuki, the Kizashi sedan in India.

The car was spotted by an eagle eyed Autocar India reader in Pune. Why Pune you may ask and not somewhere in North where Maruti is located? Well the answer to that question is homologation for the Indian market at ARAI which is located in Pune.

All this all tells us that the final launch might be closer than we expect. Kizashi is Suzuki’s answer to the likes of Honda Accord and Toyota Camry but with a USP, the driving dynamics which the company claims are as good as any European sedan out there.

The car is powered by a 2.4 liter four cylinder engine that develops 185 bhp of maximum power and 170 lb-ft of maximum torque. On pure size terms, the Kizashi lies somewhere between the Honda Civic and Accord, which is where we expect the car to be positioned in.

India’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki today handed over first lot of Two Maruti Suzuki SX4 Hybrid cars and One ‘Eeco Charge’ to Mr Arvinder Singh Lovely, Hon’ble Minister of Transport for NCT Delhi. The vehicles intended for use at the forthcoming Commonwealth Games, were handed over by Mr. Shinzo Nakanishi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, in the city.

Maruti Suzuki has made ready a lot of 14 future technology vehicles for the use at Commonwealth Games. These include 10 Maruti Suzuki SX4 Hybrid Cars and 4 Maruti Suzuki ‘Eeco Charge’ vehicles. The balance vehicles will be handed over to the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee for use by the Officials during the Commonwealth Games.

On the occasion Mr. Shinzo Nakanishi said, “I am happy that engineers at Maruti Suzuki have developed these future technology vehicles. This project has helped our engineers to increase their knowledge and enhance their R&D capability. We are grateful to the Government for their leadership to promote green technology in automobiles. Maruti Suzuki is happy to be associated with the Commonwealth Games national initiative, through these vehicles.”

Maruti Suzuki has developed the SX4 Hybrid vehicles and ‘Eeco Charge’ concept vehicles as a part of the demonstration fleet. The demonstration of the fleet of SX4 Hybrids and ‘Eeco Charge’ vehicles at the Commonwealth Games 2010, is in line with the ambitious NHPP and MNRE program outline.

SX4 Hybrid and ‘Eeco Charge’ concept development has been taken up by Maruti Suzuki as a part of the Government initiated and SIAM coordinated NHPP & MNRE National Hybrid Propulsion Program (NHPP) and the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy Sources (MNRE)’s High Energy Density Battey Development Program.

‘SX4 Hybrid’

SX4 Hybrid is a Full Parallel Hybrid with Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) on a sedan platform. SX4 Hybrid presents a case of evolution of transportation system with elements of flexibility, style and eco-friendliness. SX4 Hybrid offers mobility solution in an eco-friendly yet stylish manner.

The hybrid system used in the SX4 Hybrid features an electric motor and twin clutch arrangement with advance Lithium-ion battery technology. This concept combines a 1.2 litre K-series petrol engine and a 50 kW electric motor along with 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission. Together, these provide high fuel economy with lower emissions. The SX4 Hybrid is also capable of running solely on its electric motor, offering a further boost to fuel efficiency and zero emission modes in city driving. The SX4 hybrid offers 25 per cent more fuel efficiency compared to conventional gasoline vehicle.

‘EECO Charge’

‘Eeco Charge’ is a zero-emission, pure electric vehicle developed on a MPV platform. It is powered by a 50kW motor and a 24kWh Lithium-ion battery. On full charge it promises a driving range of around 100km and attains top speed of 100 km per hour. The ‘Eeco Charge’ also has the ‘Sport Mode’ for acceleration enthusiast. The battery for ‘Eeco Charge’ has been packaged under floor for better drivability and retaining ample boot space. Suzuki have announced that its 2011 Swift and the Kizashi Sport sedan will make their European debut at the upcoming Paris Motor Show in September next month.

The new 2011 Swift will go on sale in Europe very soon and will be powered by a new 1.2 liter 94 bhp variable valve timing petrol engine and the upgraded version of the 1.3 liter common rail turbocharged diesel with both the engine feature enhanced economy and lower CO2 emissions. The new Swift, which will also come to India very soon, is longer, roomier and relatively lighter than the outgoing version and has recently been rated 5 Stars by EURO NCAP.

Kizashi Sport is a European only version of the sedan which was launched in US market recently. The upgraded for Europe sedan comes with lowered ride height, 18 inch alloy wheels and aerodynamic kit which includes side skirting and interior trim upgrades to better suits the market tastes.

As we reported earlier, Suzuki has launched its new 125cc bike SlingShot in the Indian market.

The new bike is powered by a 125cc air cooled four stroke engine which is also found in the Zeus and is mated to a 5-speed transmission. The engine is fed by a BS carburetter with throttle position switch (TPS) and DC – CDI along with Pulse-Secondary AIR Injection system (PAIR) for maximum efficiency and power.

Other features of the SlingShot include new sturdy upswept frame, longer swing arm, rear suspension with preload adjust, light weight alloy wheels, new front fender design, sharp headlight design, convenient gear position indicator and floating instrument console.

The company will also invest Rs 500 Crore to increase its annual production capacity to 5.4 lakh units from the current 2.5 lakhs by 2012.

Speaking at the launch Mr. Atul Gupta, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd. said

“It has been our constant endeavour to capitalize on emerging opportunities in the Indian motorcycle market and the Suzuki SlingShot is a direct result of us listening to what the customers want and delivering a world class product that meets their requirements. The Suzuki SlingShot offers a complete package in terms of Style, Comfort, Performance and Practicality – all combined in a 125 cc bike. The customer wanted a bike that was as frugal on fuel as a 100 cc bike, yet had the looks to match a 150 cc premium bike combined with a price point that made the product affordable yet met all requirements – which the Suzuki SlingShot offers.”

The bike will be availabe in two variants – SlingShot Alloy Wheel and SlingShot Spoke and has been priced starting from Rs 50,140 On-Road, New Delhi.

The bike will be available in four colors – Metallic Mustard Yellow, Metallic Fox Orange, Candy Antares Red and Pearl Nebular Black.

We were the first Indian blog to have uncovered the 2011 Suzuki Swift which will come to Indian shores pretty soon. We now have plenty of high resolution images and complete details of the new Swift, a car which single heralded the premium hatchback segment in India.

The new Swift is based on a brand new platform which has an increased wheelbase by about 50mm while the overall length of the car increases by 90mm. And although the platform is brand new, you wouldnt know it simply by looking at it because the styling is subtly different from the model it replaces and to a casual eye, it may even look the same!

The front end now looks more mature with further swept back headlights and longer bonnet and ‘Kizashi’ like front grille except for the rounded edges. The bonnet is less bulbous and features ridges at the sides for that all important sleek and mean look. The side profile now looks more elegant and less boy racer and has a shoulder line the tapers up to the rear ending in the boot encompassing the slightly reprofiled rear tail lamps. Changes to the rear include redesigned bumper and re-placement of the rear number licence plate which is just below the boot lip.

The interiors have been overhauled completely and are in line with Suzuki’s priciest offering, the Kizashi sedan. The central console now has a bigger black tinted LCD screen with white character and numerals for the MP3/CD and Radio player. The screen for the Automatic Climate Control also receives the same treatment and looks in line with the rest of the interiors. The steering wheel controls have also been overhauled redesigned buttons which are bigger and hence easier to operate. The steering itself is three spoke as the current car but redesigned completely.

Mechanically the biggest change to the Swift is the increased wheelbase, which means more room for the passengers at the rear, and wider front and rear tracks by 10mm and 5 mm respectively for even squatter stance which will aid stability and handling at high speeds. The body is also said to be lighter but stiffer due to the use of advanced metallurgy and use of different steel at strategic locations in the chassis. There’s also a new 1.2 liter engine which now comes with Dual VVT and develops a healthy 92 bhp of maximum power. We expect the Dual VVT to be added to the current K-Series 1.2 liter engine to make it even more potent and fuel efficient when the new Swift is launched here. The 1.3 diesel engine will also be re-worked for better efficiency and lower emissions.

We would expect the new Swift to be launched in India by the end of this year or early next year. A little birdie also tells me that the work on it is already underway behind the closed doors at Maruti’s corporate office.

Autocar UK has published the first official pictures of the 2011 Suzuki Swift which is all set to go on sale by the end of the current year.

The new Swift is based on a new platform which sits on a longer wheelbase (+50 mm) and increase the overall length by 90mm. The body is said to be lighter and stiffer while the front and rear tracks are wider by 10mm and 5 mm respectively for even squatter stance aiding stability and handling both.

The stying is evolutionary with the new Swift carrying most of the lines from the current car with subtle changes. The new Swift at launch will come with a new 1.2 liter Dual VVT engine which produces a maximum 92 bhp of power and 87 lb-ft of maximum torque. The new engine delivers an impressive 56.5 mpg, up 7.8 mpg on the earlier 1.3 and CO2 emissions of just 116 g/km, a massive 24 g/km lower when compared to the older engine.

The 1.3 diesel has also been reworked for better efficiency delivering 67.3 mpg and just 109 g/km of CO2 emissions.

We would expect Suzuki to launch the new Swift in India as soon as it is launched internationally which only means one thing – tougher times for everyone else! Watch this space for more.

Maruti Suzuki will launch yet another small car in the already very crowded small car segment according to CEO Marketing, Mayan Pareek who was speaking to CNBC TV 18.

Although no details were forthcoming, what’s confirmed is that the new car will come with the 1.0 liter KB Series engine which develops 67 bhp of maximum power and is currently the choice of engine for Maruti’s small car line up which includes Wagon-R, A-Start and the Estilo. The new car will carry a price tag of INR 2.75 Lakhs to 3.25 Lakhs which slots it squarely between the Alto and the base model A-Star and will be launched in July-August 2010.

Its not clear whether the new car is a brand new car or will be the Alto with the new 1.0 liter engine which Maruti had intended to launch earlier but we are betting our hopes on a brand new car, more specifically the Suzuki Cervo. Maruti has been testing the Cervo in India for a while now and the car would be a perfect foil for the role.

Suzuki has shown the Kizashi Turbo Concept which made its public debut at speed channel’s Test Drive program.

The concept was prepared by Road Race Motorsports, one of the chief suppliers of the go faster bits for Suzuki, who began working with a pre-production Kizashi. The base 2.4 litre 4-cylinder engine has been topped with a 16G Turbocharger, high flow intercooler, extreme spray injectors, a blow off value, custom fuel management, velocity air intake and a velocity air intake. The result of all this is an impressive 290 bhp, up more than 100 bhp on the naturally aspirated engine.

The power is transmitted to the road via 19 inch Dunlop high performance tyres while the handling has been improved by using a rear mounted spoiler supplied by Delta Tech and sports suspension of all four corners.
