Nissan India has started taking bookings for the diesel variant of the Micra which will go on sale from December 2010.

The diesel variant will be powered by a simply 1.5 liter dCI engine delivering a modest 65 bhp and 16.3 kgs of maximum torque. The same engine also does duty under the hood of the Logan and is expected to perform much better in the ligher and smaller Micra and deliver sterling fuel efficiency too.

Although Nissan hasn’yt announced the pricing,  customers interested in the new Micra can book their’s for an initial booking amount of  Rs 50,000 at any of the 20 Nissan dealerships across the country. The Micra diesel is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 4.5 to 5.8 Lakhs.

“The success of petrol variant of Micra in the domestic market has given us huge confidence to introduce diesel variant within six months from the launch of petrol version. We are confident that the diesel-powered Micra would fulfill the discerning needs of Indian Customers.” said Kiminobu Tokuyama, MD & CEO, Nissan Motor India.

Nissan has unveiled the design sketch of its upcoming “Global Sedan” which will be made in India.

The new sedan will be the second model based on Nissan’s new global ‘V’ platform after the Micra hatchback. The car will premiere at the 8th China International Automobile Exhibition in December 2010 and will come to India later in the second half of 2011. In addition the company is also planning an MUV/MPV based on ‘V’ platform which will be unveiled in due course.

We are confident that the “New Global Sedan”, which is also based on the versatile ‘V’ platform, will delight the discerning Indian customers. The new sedan will be manufactured at Nissan’s plant at Oragadam in Chennai.

Nissan Motors India have registered total sales of 1,249 units for the month of August 2010 riding on the back Micra which sold an impressive 1,182 units. The company had sold only 22 units in the same month last year.

“Out of the remaining, Teana, the luxury sedan (CBU) clocked 21 units and X-trail, the lifestyle SUV (CBU), registered sales of 44 units” said the release. 2 units of 370Z, Nissan’s first sportscar launch in India also managed to find 2 buyers.

Nissan launched the Micra in July 2010 and has till date received about 3,600 booking for the car.

Here is the latest dope on Nissan’s latest and the greatest. The leaked image comes to you courtesy the folks at gtrblog which say that 2012 Nissan GT-R (2011 JDM) is in final stages of pre-launch preparations and will be officially launched before the year end.

The leaked images confirm the changes to the exteriors which have already been noticed in the spy images of the car doing rounds at Germany’s famed Nurburgring circuit. The front fascia now has integrated daytime running LED lights while the front bumper itself has been redesigned for even better efficiency which drop the already impressive COD of 0.272 to 0.268. The rear diffuser has also been redesigned and now provides 10% greater downforce pushing the envelope of what possible with a supercar even further.

The alloy wheels are now Rays forged aluminium which cut a massive 3 kgs per wheel of unsprung weight resulting in a total reduction of 12 kgs around the car. The new alloy wheels are not only lighter but also stiffer and will offer better steering response and feedback. They will be offered in two colors with attractive 3 layer ultra deep paint process – Hyper Blue Black and Hyper Titanium.

There are no details on the engine front but we expect the 3.8 liter turbocharged 485 bhp V6 engine to be fine tuned for more power.

Two new color options will also be available – Aurora Flare Blue Pearl and Nebula Opal Black.

Nissan is off to a veritable flyer in India with its small car, the Micra. The company has sold 928 units of Micra in the Indian market in the month of July which is very impressive considering it was launched just 15 days back.

Total sales for the month stand at 1005 units helped by 27 units of the luxury sedan Teana and 50 units of the crossover SUV, the X-Trail. The company has already received 3000 bookings for the new Micra, a number which according to the company is steadily growing.

Commenting on the July sales, NMIPL managing Director and CEO Kiminobu Tokuyama said “This was just the beginning and Nissan India are happy and delighted at the initial response that the Micra has received from the Indian customers.”

Nissan has also announced the opening of five more dealerships – Lucky Nissan – Vijayawada; CI Nissan – Bhopal; Royal Nissan – Jaipur; Ananta Nissan – Bhubaneswar and Orion Nissan – Navi Mumbai taking the total number of Nissan dealerships in India to 20. The company will also add 10 more dealer very shortly.

Nissan has officially kick started its small car campaign in India with the launch of the much awaited Micra. The new Micra is based on Nissan’s new V-platform which will also spawn a small MPV and a new sedan in due course of time.

The new Micra comes powered by a 1.2 liter three cylinder petrol engine which develops a maximum 76 ps of power @ 6000 rpm and 104 nm of maximum torque @ 4000 rpm. Nissan will also launch a diesel version of the Micra later.

The Micra has been launched in three variants – the entry level XE priced at INR 3,98,000, mid level XL priced at INR 4,69,500 and the top end XV priced at INR 5,28,800 all prices Ex-Showroom Delhi and comes with six color options. Nissan has adopted a uniform pricing policy across the country except the states where differential VAT, entry tax, Octroi and other local taxes applicable would be levied extra. What this means is uniform ex-showroom price throughout the country which offers fair and equitable benefit to consumers all across.

Nissan Micra comes with a lots of firsts for the small car segment with features like Intelligent key plus Immobilizer, push button engine start-stop system and electrically foldable outside rear view mirrors. There also an intelligent multi information display which supplies the driver with real time information on instantaneous fuel consumption, cruising range and outside temperature reading.

Nissan should also be commended for offering driver Airbag throughout the range irrespective of the variant which means even the basic version has it! Another first for its segment and a step in the right direction.

PRODUCT ATTRIBUTES

Nissan Micra is a compact hatchback with an affable appearance and engineered for easy handling and sprightly performance, while realizing class-competitive fuel efficiency.

INNOVATIONS

Positioned in the B+ car segment, the new Micra is equipped with some key technological innovations, which are designed to simplify day-to-day life for its owners. The Nissan Micra offers first-in-its-class Intelligent Key plus Immobilizer, a push-button engine start-stop system and electric foldable mirror.

Another unique feature is the intelligent multi-display meter, which supplies drivers with real time fuel economy information, cruising range and outside temperature. In addition, the driver power windows are fitted with ‘one touch up/down’ feature along with a pinch guard.

DESIGN

A unique design feature of this car is the double-layer integrated grille, which provides a stylish and sophisticated look to the car, yet maintaining a classical shape. There is also a stylized version of the distinctive arched side window line, something that is central to the Micra’s heritage, identity and appeal.

Compact Exteriors

Retaining its compact dimensions, the Nissan Micra measures 3780mm in length, 1665mm in width and 1530mm in height. The longer wheelbase (2450mm) enables a ‘wheels-at-each-corner’ stance – the main reason behind the Micra’s roomier interiors. The boomerang-shaped grooves on the roof have a clearly defined purpose too. The efforts of Nissan’s Global Production Engineering Centre also make it the lightest (XE-905kgs, XL-915kgs & XV -930kgs) yet sturdy hatchback in its segment. This has been achieved in numerous ways by reducing number of components and using newer manufacturing and material processing techniques.

Roomy and Practical Interiors

Aiming to match the same sense of exterior style inside the car, Nissan has employed a ‘connected cocoon’ design featuring a dashboard design, which takes on a ‘twin bubble’ theme. This refers to the circular instrumentation panel and the similarly shaped glove box compartment on the passenger side. Special attention has been paid to use of materials on the instrumental panel by using Micro-grain technology. This reduces the plasticky feeling and improves productivity by ensuring quality and finish for visual and tactile appeal.

Performance

The all-new Nissan Micra is powered by an all-new HR12 DOHC 12-valves 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine. Power is rated at 56Kw (76ps) @ 6000 rpm, while torque output is 104Nm @ 4000 rpm. The Nissan Micra comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The wide gear coverage enables the 1.2-litre engine to achieve economy and brisk acceleration.

Ride and Handling

Nissan engineers have taken meticulous effort to develop the ride and handling characteristics of the car that is a perfect mix of agility, refinement and poise. Mounted onto Nissan’s new signature V-platform, the compact design of the suspension minimizes intrusion at the rear for maximum trunk space, but not at the expense of the car’s on-road dynamics. The front MacPherson Strut and rear Torsion Beam provide excellent cushioning effect, reducing fatigue during long journeys. Particular attention has been paid to bump absorption, ensuring that the Micra will ride smoothly over challenging road surfaces, not suffer from wallow or float, and cruise effortlessly at highway speeds.

Comfort and Convenience

In contrast to its high-speed capability, the car also has superb visibility and a class-topping turning radius of 4.65m. It is equipped with several new technologies that assist with minimizing C02 emissions and mileage while at the same time making parking easier.

The Nissan Micra with a top speed of 160kmph provides a class competitive fuel efficiency of 18.06 km/litre (tested and approved by ARAI). The Nissan Micra is also equipped with a class competitive boot space of 251 litres that can easily carry those extra bags of shopping during travel.

Safety

In the area of safety technology, Nissan pursues innovation as part of its “Safety Shield” concept, an advanced, proactive approach to safety issues based on the idea that cars should help protect people. The incorporation of the ‘V-platform’ is one major factor contributing to the car’s improved impact safety. The car is designed to absorb the forces of a frontal impact, owing to the sophisticated crumple zones, while maintaining cabin integrity due to its highly reinforced body shell. All variants including the entry level (XE) are equipped with driver airbag. The top variant (XV) has been fitted with standard safety equipment such as Driver + Front Passenger airbag, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA).

Nissan has unveiled the facelifted 2011 X-Trail in Japan which will go on sale from July 16th. With the facelift Nissan has also launched  a new clean diesel variant christened X-Trail 20GT mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and meets the stringent Japanese “Post long term regulations” becoming the first vehicle in the world to do so.

The changes to the exteriors include new front grille, new front bumper and new headlights to give it bolder and sportier front-end look. The insides have been refreshed with larger sized meters which have been adopted for better visibility and a vehicle information system which provides instantaneous fuel consumption, upcoming maintenance schedules and various other information and heated and cooled glovebox which is standard across the range.

The new X-Trail also comes with a new Advanced Hill Descent Control which lets the driver set the speed within the range from 4 kmph to 15 kmph depending on the degree of the hilll grade.

Nissan currently exports the X-Trail as a CBU from its home country of Japan and we would expect the new model to be in India very soon.

Nissan Releases Revised X-TRAIL SUV -
Adds Automatic Transmission Model to Clean Diesel “20GT”

YOKOHAMA (July 8, 2010) – Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced the release of the new revised X-TRAIL and the addition of a 6-speed automatic transmission model to the Clean Diesel “X-TRAIL 20GT.” Both go on sale July 16th at Nissan dealers nationwide.

Following its full model change in August 2007, X-TRAIL has held the top position in the annual SUV sales ranking for three consecutive years (from FY2007 through FY2009*1). X-TRAIL’s popularity is attributed to customers’ high evaluations of its interior with high functionality (such as water repellant seats), spacious luggage area where items can be loaded efficiently, a high level of driving stability, and superior off-road capability delivered by the advanced “ALL MODE 4X4-i” 4WD system. Consumers also enjoy the excellent environmental performance of the Clean Diesel “GT20,” which meets Japan’s stringent “Post New Long-term Regulations.”*2 X-TRAIL is the first vehicle in the world to do so.

The latest refinements to X-TRAIL focus on the exterior, interior and the addition of a new “20GT” Clean Diesel 6-speed automatic transmission model. On the exterior, the front grille, front bumper and headlights have been redesigned to give an even bolder and sportier front-end look. Also, the combination taillights have been changed to LED, improving visibility from following vehicles in bad weather.

In the interior, large-size meters have been adopted for better driver visibility and a vehicle information display system is newly provided to display moment fuel consumption, upcoming maintenance schedules and various other information. In addition, a glove compartment with heat-retention and refrigerator functions is standard on all models.

The versatile utility that only the X-TRAIL can deliver has been further enhanced with the addition of an “Advanced Hill Descent Control” (fitted with a speed-setting function), which can set the desired driving speed suited to road surface conditions, the degree of hill grade or other situations. It has been adopted on 4WD models (except for manual transmission models).

With the addition of the new “20GT” 6-speed automatic transmission (with manual shift mode) model, Nissan now offers an advanced Clean Diesel engine model capable of delivering both superior driving and environmental performance. The X-TRAIL “20GT” is powered by the 2-liter “M9R” Clean Diesel engine that generates, from low RPM range, a level of torque comparable to that of a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine.

In fiscal year 2010, Nissan introduces its two-pillar strategy to reduce CO2 emissions: “zero emissions” and PURE DRIVE. PURE DRIVE vehicles are designed to achieve top-level-in-class fuel economy for mass-produced models by equipping them with optimal next-generation eco technologies, such as Idling stop, Clean Diesel and Hybrid. “20GT” is the second in the series of PURE DRIVE vehicles to be introduced in Japan.
For X-TRAIL gasoline engine-equipped models, Nissan now offers grades that meet the tax break measures*3 provided in Japan’s “tax system to promote the diffusion of environmentally friendly vehicles,” thereby qualifying for 75% reductions in the automobile acquisition tax and the automobile weight tax. Meanwhile, the Clean Diesel “20GT” model is fully exempt from the automobile acquisition tax and the automobile weight tax under the said tax system. Also, as a next-generation automobile, the Clean Diesel “20GT” model is eligible for the government “subsidies (a maximum of 210k yen) intended to promote the introduction of clean diesel cars. “*4 These subsidies continue to be available for eligible cars, even after the end of September 2010 when the eco-car purchase subsidies are due to be terminated.

* “Vehicle Information Display” provided at the center of the meter panel – this display system is fitted with a drive computer function to indicate fuel consumption, cruising range, etc., a maintenance function to show the time to change engine oil and tires, and a warning information function to display various warnings
* Larger size meters
* Interior pillar color changed from gray to the same color as the instrument panel
* Cross seat material changed from space fabric to suede-like tricot

Mechanism and Equipment

* Newly adopted Advanced Hill Descent Control system (with a speed-setting function) for 4WD models – this system enables the driver to set his or her desired driving speed arbitrarily within the range from 4km/h to 15km/h, depending on the degree of hill grade
* Glove compartment with heat-retention and refrigerator functions adopted
* Three-point seatbelt and a headrest installed at the center of the rear seat as standard equipment
* Intelligent Key system + engine immobilizer provided as standard equipment (except for 20S)
* 6-speed automatic transmission model added to the 20GT – features a highly distributed lean NOx trap catalyst dedicated to the diesel engine and a high-precision engine management system dedicated to the AT model

1. *1: Registrations of the “X-TRAIL” in the Japan market: April 2007～March 2008: 34,651units, April 2008～March 2009: 27,001units, April 2009～March 2010: 38,179units (Japan Automobile Dealers Association (JADA) survey). According to JADA classification, SUVs are domestically produced off-road 4WD vehicles (including some 2WD vehicles).
2. *2: Post New Long-term Regulations (Japan’s 2009 motor vehicle exhaust emission standards) stipulate that NOx is to be reduced by 47% and PM (particulate matter) by 64% from the levels required by the “New Long-term Regulations” (exhaust emission standards) which have been in effect in Japan since 2005 (applicable to vehicles weighing more than 1,265kg). The Post New Long-term Regulations went into effect for new models in October 2009 and will apply to existing models and imported cars, starting from September 2010.
3. *3: All “20X” 4WD models, and the “20S” model, which gets to weigh more than 1,520kg with the installation of optional equipment, have achieved 75% lower emissions (SU-LEV) than the level required by the 2005 exhaust emission standards, and they have also achieved a 25% improvement in fuel economy over the 2010 fuel economy standards. Thus, they qualify for:
75% reduction of the automobile acquisition tax on vehicles newly registered by March 31, 2012 and
75% reduction of the automobile weight tax on vehicles newly registered by April 30, 2012.
Meanwhile, the automobile tax on vehicles newly registered by March 31, 2012 is reduced by 50% for one year starting from the next fiscal year following the registrations (excluding mini-vehicles).
The “20GT”(Clean Diesel) models are regarded as next generation automobiles, thus they are fully exempt from the automobile acquisition tax and the automobile weight tax during the above-mentioned periods.

Nissan collectively refers to models that qualify for these preferential tax breaks under the “tax system to promote the diffusion of environmentally friendly vehicles,” as the Nissan ECO Series (NECO Series). There are following 20 applicable models in the NECO series as of June 9, 2010: “Moco,” “Otti,” “Roox,” “March,” “Note,” “Cube,” “Tiida,” “Tiida Latio,” “Wingroad,” “Serena,” “Juke,” “Dualis,” “X-TRAIL,” “Lafesta,” “Skyline Sedan,” “Fuga,” “AD/AD Expert,” “NV200 Vanette,” “Atlas F24″and “Atlas H43.”
4. *4: The open application period for the government subsidies (a maximum of 210k yen) to promote the introduction of clean diesel cars is from April 1, 2010 through February 8, 2011. (If the number of open applications reaches a certain level, the subsidies are to be terminated halfway through the period.) The amount of the clean diesel subsidies varies depending on vehicle purchase prices, and the subsidies cannot be drawn upon in combination with the subsidies for eco-car purchases.

Autech Japan Adds New “X-TREMER X” Customized X-TRAIL Models in August

Autech Japan, Inc., a wholly owned Nissan affiliate, today announced that it will start sales of the “X-TREMER X” customized models, based on the X-TRAIL SUV, at Nissan dealers nationwide on August 23rd.

The “X-TREMER X” customized model further emphasizes the X-TRAIL’s Tough Gear image. It is equipped with special exterior parts, such as a front overrider, undercover and dedicated large-size fog lamps. These pieces are intended to protect the underbody, mainly in off-road driving, and to further enhance a sense of presence and an air of massive substance as an SUV. The “X-TREMER X Plus Navi HDD” model, fitted with a high performance HDD navigation system as standard equipment, is offered at an affordable price.

Like the base X-TRAIL models, these specially customized models meet tax break measures *1 provided in Japan’s “Tax system to promote the diffusion of environmentally friendly vehicles.” Customized models based on the “20X” gasoline model qualify for 75% reductions in the automobile acquisition tax and the automobile weight tax, while customized models based on the Clean Diesel “20GT” model are fully exempt from these taxes. Furthermore, as next-generation automobiles, the models based on the Clean Diesel “20GT” model are eligible for the government “subsidies (a maximum of 210k yen) to promote the introduction of clean diesel cars.” *2 These clean diesel subsidies continue to be available for eligible cars, even after the end of September 2010 when the eco-car purchase subsidies are due to be terminated.

Germans have yet again dominated this year’s International Engine Of The Year (IEOTY) awards which are judged by a panel of 65 renowned motoring journalists from 32 countries. The awards ceremony took place yesterday in Stuttgart, Germany.

Topping the list with the most coveted of them all, the IEOTY awards has gone to VW’s 1.4 Liter TSI Twincharger for second year running. The sheer versatility  and combination of power and economy continues to impress the motoring scribes from all over the world. The engine when mated to VW’s DSg gearbox emits just 144 g/km of CO2 while consuming just 6.2 liter of the precious fuel per 100 kilometers in the 170 bhp tune!

VW came out on tops with four overall wins followed closely by Mercedes Benz and BMW which won in 3 catagories each.

The judges also acknowledged Fiat’s brand new 1.4 Liter Multiair Turbo engine by giving it the title of the best new engine of the year 2010.  The electro-hydraulic system patented by Fiat powertrain technologies claims 10% improvement in power, 15% improvement in torque and 10% improvement in economy over a similarly specc’d traditional petrol engine. The engine consumes just 6 liter of fuel every 100 kilometers while delivering an impressive 170 bhp of maximum power.

The best performance engine of the year award went to Mercedes Benz yet again with the AMG 6.2 liter engine delivering the goods. The engine got a total of 220 points to be titled no. 1 followed in the distance by Porsche’s 3.8 liter flat six scoring 125 points.

The Green engine of the year went to Toyota Prius’s combined powerplant. The latest version features a more powerful 1.8 liter atkinson cycle 4 cylinder engine delivering 98 bhp at 5200 rpm. Together with its electric motor, the hybrid system generates a total of 134 bhp, an improvement of over 24 bhp compared to the previous generation. Toyota has also won the sub-1 liter engine of the year with is three cylinder unit in Aygo.

Nissan has officially announced the start of the commercial production of its made in India hatchback Micra.  The car will be built at Renault-Nissan’s manufacturing facility in Oragadam, Chennai which has been built at a cost of $1 billion.

The new Micra will be displayed at Nissan showrooms starting tomorrow and can be booked by interested customers by paying an initial booking amount of Rs 50,000 throughout India.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Toshiyuki Shiga, Chief Operating Officer, Nissan Motor Company said, “The start of commercial production of Nissan Micra is the beginning of a new chapter for us in India. In an exponentially growing and challenging Indian automobile industry, we are introducing a product that has been specifically designed keeping in mind the discerning consumer needs of India. The India made Micra will supply to strategic markets such as Europe, Middle East and Africa and this is only possible due to the high quality skills of Indian team.”

Commenting on the momentous occasion, Mr. Kiminobu Tokuyama, Managing Director and CEO, Nissan Motor India said, “The day that all of us were waiting for has finally arrived and we are delighted with the roll out of the first car. We always had a clear strategy for India and this has been clearly reflected in our investments in the first manufacturing plant for the alliance in Chennai. We are now confident that the Indian customers will like our product offerings beginning with the Nissan Micra, and this is the right product at the right time.”

The sales of the new Nissan Micra will commence in July 2010 meaning that the official launch is very near.

The new Micra has a localization percentage of 85% from day 1 and hence would be priced very competitively. Expect the base petrol to be priced close to INR 4 lakhs going upto 5.2 lakhs for the top end petrol model.

Nissan Motor India announces the start of commercial production of Micra

Chennai, May 24, 2010: Nissan Motor India today celebrated the start of production of its ‘Made-in-India’ compact car (hatchback) Nissan Micra from its manufacturing plant at Oragadam, near Chennai. Mr. Toshiyuki Shiga, Chief Operating Officer, Nissan Motor Company, cut the ribbon to mark the roll out of the first car off assembly line. Mr. Akira Sakurai, Managing Director & CEO, Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Kiminobu Tokuyama, Managing Director & CEO, Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd. joined the 1900 employees to commemorate the occasion.

The plant operates in full compliance with Alliance global manufacturing processes and quality standards. Its production management system, launched for the first time at any plant of Renault and Nissan, is based on mutual knowledge sharing and the best practices from both companies. The new manufacturing process allows the plant to seamlessly mix production of both Renault and Nissan products on same line.
Nissan is also looking at making the Chennai plant as a global hub for exports. The start of production for the Micra for exports will commence in July 2010 and the first shipment would begin from September 2010. Nissan is looking at exporting to more than 100 countries including Europe, Middle East and Africa.
