Mercedes Benz has launched the new E200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY in the Indian market today. This is company’s 8th offering in the E-Class range which spans models like E Class Coupe and the recently launched E Class Cabriolet apart from the regular sedan variety.

The car is powered by a 1796 liter turbocharged four cylinder engine developing 183 bhp of maximum power and 285 nm of maximum torque. The new model also marks the debut of the CGI technology in the E Class range in India. This would be the new entry level model for the E Class range in India.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Wilfried Aulbur, Managing Director & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India Limited, said

“E-Class has been an all round success internationally; in India too it is the most popular luxury car in the country. The new E 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCYis an irresistable combination of power, torque and luxury and further reinforces the broad range within the E-Class offerings.”

The new E 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY has been priced at a competitive Rs 39.5 Lakhs, Ex-Showroom, New Delhi and comes in the Elegance trim.

The new E-Class is expected to further consolidate the German brand’s position in India which recently has been on a launch spree and also posted its best ever monthly sales month in India.

S-t-u-n-n-i-n-g Side Profile

Mercedes Benz have officially unveiled the 2012 CLS ahead of its public debut at the upcoming Paris Motor Show in September. The new CLS brochure images had already leaked on to the internet a few days back but in then new high resolution it looks even more impressive.The next generation of the four door coupe from Stuttgart hopes to build upon the success of the original CLS which was launched in 2004 and went ahead to sell 1,70,000 units worldwide.

The striking front

The original CLS was the harbinger of the four door coupe trend worldwide and almost every manufacturer these days has one in the lineup and one’s who don’t, have already given a go ahead including BMW which is reportedly working on the Gran Coupe Concept. The new CLS retains the proportions of the original with long hood, tight frame less side windows and a dynamic roof sweeping back at the angle towards rear. It manages to look even striking which is impressive given that the now old CLS still looks as exciting and as sexy as ever and hence is a very hard act to follow.

The striking front end is dominated by sharply styled headlights which are full LED and boasts a world’s first, dynamic lightening with full LED technology. The headlight contains a total of 71 LED’s in each unit and are divided into three arrow shaped layers from top to bottom with each layer performing one individual function while at the same time creating an unmistakable beam pattern at night.

The impressively styled CLS is modeled on the shooting brake concept with dynamic, athletic  from enhanced by interplay of lines and surfaces. A unique dropping line beginning from the front wheel wells sloping downwards at the rear represents a new interpretation of hallmark Mercedes sports car. The sports car like shoulder line above the rear axle highlights the athletic character while the nicely flared wheel arches further accentuate the already power and confident stance.

The interiors are even more luxurious and the cockpit like dashboard design envelopes the driver making him a part of the whole package. Further, the insides feature innovative use of satin and high gloss metal finishes for metal surfaces and a central display which is integrated neatly into the upper part of the instrument panel. The seats are covered with 1.6 mm thick leather which meets the highest standards of look and feel while their natural pore structure imparts a warm and soft feel. The individual parts of the leather dashboard are sewn together by hand for even high quality fit. The leather used is also preshrunk by heat so that it retains it shape even after exposure to strong sunlight.

While there is still no official word on the engine options, the new CLS is certain to come with the all new 3.5 liter direct injected petrol engine in the base CLS 350 while the CLS 550 will get the 4.6 liter V8 that develops a healthy 430 bhp. There will also be an AMG version which is certain to come with the 5.5 liter Twin Turbo V8 with a colossal 544 bhp  and 800 nm of maximum torque.

The new CLS – the new design icon from Mercedes-Benz

A generation ahead: The CLS-Class created a new vehicle category in 2003 by combining the elegance and expressiveness of a coupé with the comfort and functionality of a sedan. The CLS delighted the public, astounded the competi-tion and created a new style icon: for years the CLS has endured as the only four-door coupé in its class, and since October 2004 it has been the car of choice for approximately 170,000 buyers worldwide. “Customers all over the world benefited from our bold move to launch a completely new vehicle con-cept onto the market”, explains a delighted Dr. Joachim Schmidt, member of the board of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Sales & Marketing. “And with its exciting de-sign, the new edition of the CLS also benefits from the fact that we are a whole generation ahead of the competition with our four-door Coupé.”

Celebrating its world premiere at the Paris motor show (October 2 – 17, 2010), the 2012 CLS-Class will arrive in U.S. dealerships in mid-2011. The 2012 CLS-Class builds on the pioneering role of its predecessor with a fresh new inter-pretation. “The new CLS points the way forward for the future perceptible de-sign idiom of Mercedes-Benz”, explains Professor Gorden Wagener, head of de-sign at Mercedes-Benz. “At the same time it takes its inspiration from the great tradition of stylish, refined sportiness which has always been a feature of Mercedes coupés.”

Exterior: classic Coupé styling with distinctive front

The proportions remain as spectacular as ever: long hood, tightly-styled frame-less side windows and a dynamic roof sweeping back at an angle towards the rear. The four-door Coupé from Mercedes-Benz immediately made its mark in 2003 as a new style icon. Though the proportions are the same, the second generation of this design trendsetter has a completely new look.

What immediately strikes the eye is the innovative front design, which is remi-niscent of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. Visually, the radiator grille is not inte-grated into the hood but formed separately. This further highlights the long, sporty hood. The grille is dominated by the large central star, which unites the car with other Mercedes-Benz coupés and also enhances brand identity. The large, elongated dark air inlets with black grilles also add to the vehicle’s ath-letic appearance.

Design brings high-tech features to life

Another distinguishing feature comes in the form of the full LED headlamps, which are the world’s first to offer all of the dynamic light functions using LED technology. This innovation boasts an impressive design – inside they are di-vided into three arrow-shaped layers from top to bottom: the upper layer con-tains an LED indicator, beneath which is a striking LED side light offers LED low beam functions. The side light can also be seen when the high beam is acti-vated, thereby creating a unique night-time design. The lowest level of the headlamp houses the main beam and nightview functions. A total of 71 LED’s provide an unmistakable appearance as well as a significantly enhanced view of the road compared with previous systems.

The typical CLS outline, with its elegantly long proportions, is the dominating attribute of the new model. The effect of the dynamic, athletic form has been enhanced with a new interplay of lines and surfaces. A unique “dropping line”, which begins above the front wheel-wells and slopes downward towards the rear, represents a new interpretation of a renowned design hallmark of his-toric Mercedes sports cars. A distinctive and muscular sports car-like shoulder line above the rear axle highlights the athletic character of the 2012 CLS. The flared wheel arches resemble the powerful stance of a predator waiting to pounce. The side profile is rounded off with wide wrap-around tail lights featuring LED technology — a linking element to the rear of the vehicle. The shape is empha-sized by the broad shoulder line, which is clearly visible from behind and sup-ports the flat roof. A wide metal insert adds a further visual highlight at the rear.

The interior: design brings quality to life

The interior of the 2012 CLS-Class is also distinguished by a timeless design which combines discreet elegance with innovative details and handcrafted per-fection. The eye-catching cockpit features a wrap-around dashboard sweeping from the driver’s door over the instrument panel support and across to the front passenger door. The central display has also been integrated seamlessly into the upper part of the instrument panel.

The CLS also lives up to its role as a design icon thanks to the innovative nature of the materials used, including a mixture of satin and high-gloss finishes used on the metal surfaces. Highlights also include matte galvanized air vents which ideally compliment a high-gloss-trimmed analogue clock.

Handcrafted perfection is reflected in details such as the stitched seat covers and dashboard. The individual parts of the leather dashboard are sewn to-gether by hand in a process which takes several hours, after which they are fit-ted and upholstered with high-quality padding. Prior to this process, the leather is also heated to preshrink it, so that it will retain its shape even after extreme exposure to direct sunlight.

The particularly exclusive 1.6-millimeter thick semi-aniline premium leather meets the highest standards of both look and feel. The natural pore structure remains intact thanks to a light pigmentation, and the leather has an especially warm and soft feel to it. Premium leather requires a very precise manual selection process and therefore a high amount of untreated leather.

The refined interior of the CLS is further reflected in the generous use of high-quality trim elements, located on the instrument panels, center console and door linings. Customers can choose between high-gloss brown burl walnut or high-gloss black ash. The wood has been perfectly fitted around difficult con-tours for a masterful handcrafted finish, and the wood trim has been matched according to grain as part of a sophisticated selection process to create a con-sistent overall impression.

For an even more progressive look, black piano lacquer or carbon fiber trim elements are also available. Handcrafted as well, up to seven layers are applied and polished for the piano lacquer trim until the high-gloss finish is achieved.

After numerous leaks and spy shots some of which were good and some not so good, we finally have the next generation Mercedes Benz CLS for all to see in full glory, all thanks to a brochure leak that has found its way on the internet. The production of the current CLS was stopped recently to pave way for the new model which is expected to make it world debut at the upcoming Paris Motor Show in September.

The new model is heavily modeled on the shooting brake concept that Mercedes have been displaying at various auto show around the world. The classic four door coupe’s styling is now aggressive with a prominent grille which now sits much lower and aggressively cut front bumper with the trademark day time running lights. The interiors will be four seater with a full length central console ending between the two rear seats aka Porsche Panamera and Aston Martin Rapide. The dashboard layout is similar to the shooting brake concept  with an almost identical steering wheel.

Under the hood options include two petrols – the CLS 350 CGI which will feature a 3.5 liter direct injected V6 with a power output of 306 ps &  368 nm of maximum torque and the CLS 550 CGI which will feature a 4.6 liter twin turbo V8 with 435 ps and 700 nm of torque and may come with all wheel drive as an option. The diesel engine options will include a CLS 350 CDI featuring 3.0 liter V6 turbocharged diesel outputting 252 ps and CLS 250 CDI with a power outout of 204 ps. The hot CLS 63 AMG will have the omnipresent but potent 5.5 liter twin turbo V8 called the M157 with 544 bhp of maximum power and 800 nm of maximum torque.

In what seems to be an ever expanding E Class range, Mercedes Benz have now launched the new E Class Cabrio in the Indian market. This is company’s seventh E Class based offering in India which also includes the recently launched E Class Coupe.

Speaking at the launch, Mercedes Benz India Managing Director Wilfried Aulbur said. “With its launch, the versatility of the E-Class range is further reinforced. The E-Class now offers the Cabriolet in addition to the already present E-Class Saloon and the E- Class Coupe”

The newest member of the E Class family is powered by the same engine which powers the E Class coupe in our market. The 3498 cc direct injected V6 engine under the hood develops 272 bhp of maximum power @ 6000 rpm and a maximum 355 nm of torque between 2400-5000 rpm and is mated to Mercedes’s 7G-Tronic seven speed automatic transmission. The car is capable of hitting 0-100 kph in just 6.9 seconds and a top speed which is limited to 250 kmph.

Other unique features of the new E Class Cabrio include a fully retractable electric fabric top with three layers of weather resistant material which can be opened or closed at the touch of a button at speed upto 40 kmph in 20 seconds and a AIRCAP feature doesn’t let the wind come into the cabin even when driving with the roof completely down and can be activated at the press of guess what?… a button!

Standard Mercedes features also find a mention include speed sensitive power steering, PARKTRONIC with advanced parking guidance, ATTENTION ASSIST, THERMATIC 2-zone automatic climate control with digital display and Tyre pressure monitoring system. Saving the best for the last, an advanced Harman Kardon Logic 7 5.1 channel 450 watt surround sound system consisting of a whopping 12 speakers including a sub-woofer is also standard!

The new E Class Cabriolet has been priced at Rs 64.5 Lakhs, Ex-Showroom, New Delhi.

Mercedes Benz has reported that July 2010 has been their best ever sales month even since the company set up shop in India almost 15 years back.

The company sold a total of 521 units in India registering a growth of 80% on a year on year basis.  The best selling Mercedes is the all new E-Class launched recently with 212 units sold while the SUV GL and M-Class together sold 62 units, their highest ever and very impressive considering a total of 140 were sold during the entire last year!

Dr. Wilfried Aulbur Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India said: “July has been the best ever month in the history of Mercedes-Benz in India. Jan-July 2010 also has been a period of strong growth for us. While numbers are encouraging statistics, they are not the only focus for us. Commitment to exciting products, world-class ownership experience and engaging customer programs will continue to be our focus areas towards appreciation of our customers for Mercedes-Benz.”

Mercedes Benz have stopped the production of one of the most iconic car of the our times, the CLS to pave way for the new generation model.

The next generation model C218 will make its public debut at the upcoming Paris Motor Show in September and will go on sale soon afterwards. The current generation CLS made it debut at the 2003 Frankfurt Auto Show and went into production in 2004. The car has been a huge hit for Mercedes Benz and has sold 170,000 units worldwide since its launch. Its also widely considered to be the best looking car to have come out from Mercedes and has spawned the rush of four door coupe’s.

We have already shown you the spy pictures of the new CLS which retains the stylistic elements of the F800 and the CLS Shooting Brake concept that Mercedes has already previewed. The new CLS will be offered with a raft of engines ranging from a 3.5 liter Direct Injected V6 with 300 bhp to 4.7 Liter V8 with 430 bhp and 516 lb-ft of torque.

According to a senior engineering resource, Mercedes Benz is reportedly working on 9 Speed Automatic transmission that will leap frog the ZF 8-speed units being used by Audi and BMW.

Christened the 9G-Tronic, the better spread nine ratios are said to deliver huge improvements in fuel economy and lowered CO2 emissions. The source also mentioned that development of gearbox with more than 9 ratios is unlikely. Mercedes engineers think that nine ratios is the maximum that is technically possible as well as being the most that end consumers will be able to cope with.

The new gearbox will be used on large displacement engines and will most likely debut on the 2012 Mercedes S Class that is currently under development and will further trickle down to higher end E-Class models as well.

The latest and greatest from around the world is coming/flying thick and fast to the Indian shores. The latest proof is the launch of the new Mercedes Benz SLS AMG, one of the most reverred supercars on the planet, at a launch party held today in New Delhi.

The car comes powered by a 6.2 liter V8 engine belting out a colossal 563 bhp of maximum power @ 6800 rpm and an equally biblical 650 nm of torque @ 4750 rpm. As a result of all that power and torque, the SLS AMG shoots past the 100 kmph mark in just 3.7 seconds and hits a top speed of 317 kmph!

The car is a modern interpretation of the classic Mercedes Gullwing and looks every inch as gorgeous and exquisite if not more complete with the same gullwing doors.

The pricing is equally exquisite with Mercedes Benz charging anywhere between Rs 2 crores to 2.5 crores depending on the level of customization level. But then good things in life don’t come cheap. Till then dream on…

P.S.  A matte brown SLS AMG has already been delivered to a Delhi customer so keep your eyes and ears open and camera’s ready.

Following the foot steps of arch rival BMW, Mercedes Benz have entered the used car market in India with ‘Proven Exclusivity’ used car programme.

Currently running in 35 countries, the programme started in 2009 and utilizes global standard methods for vehicle quality, quality and warranty to offer Mercedes Benz pre-owned cars to customers. The programme will only  offer cars which are no more than six year old.

“Comprehensive evaluation and refurbishment criteria, scientific tools for audit and inspection as well as manufacturer backed warranty go into the making of a certified ‘Proven Exclusivity’ vehicle. The dream of owning a Mercedes-Benz thus becomes even more achievable. At the same time customers can also drive in their existing vehicles and drive out with their new Mercedes-Benz cars by utilizing the trade-in route under ‘Proven Exclusivity’”. – said Dr. Wilfried Aulbur, MD & CEO, Mercedes Benz India

As of now the pre-owned cars will be put on sale through six authorized dealerships in four Indian cities – Mumbai, Delhi, Chandigarh and Ahmedabad. The company plans to add eight additional outlets by the end of 2010 and expects pre-owned business to account for 10-15 percent of its total car sales by 2011.
