Tata Motors today have commercially launched the all new Tata Indigo e-CS in the Indian market. The car was announced earlier in april but no pricing details were revealed.

The most fuel efficient sedan in the country, the Indigo e-CS has an ARAI rated fuel efficiency of 23.03 kmpl for the 1.4 DICOR engined version. Other engine options includes a 1.2 litre petrol with 67 bhp of maximum power. Both the diesel and petrol version are now Bharat IV compliant.

The new Indigo e-CS get a fresh look on the outside with new satin finish grill, new headlamps and OVRM mounted side indicators. The bumpers are body colored while the rub rails on the sides feature chrome inserts for upmarket looks.

The interior refresh consist of a dual tone dashboard with fabric interiors and a bluetooth enabled music system with electrical controls for OVRMs. The usual suspects like the AC, power steering and the power windows which were already present in the earlier model are also there.

The new Indigo e-CS comes with an 18 month unlimited kilometers warranty which is amongst the best in the industry and will come in a range of 4 colors. The car has been priced at Rs 4.07 Lakhs Ex-Showroom, Delhi for the 1.2 MPFi base petrol GLS and Rs 5.13 Lakhs, Ex-Showroom, Delhi for the top end eLX for the 1.4 DICOR diesel.

In a bid to give impetus to the sales of slow selling Logan, Mahindra has reduced the prices just days after it had announced to buy out the stakes from its French partner Renault.

The prices of the Logan have been slashed by a whopping Rs 27,000 to Rs 80,000 for the BS III variants while the BS IV versions see a price reduction from Rs 24,000 to Rs 65,000. The new prices will be effective from 26th April, Monday.

Mr Rajesh Jejurikar, Chief Executive, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra said

“The rationalisation of the prices of the Logan have been made so as to provide a better value proposition for our customers. All the significant features of the Logan are now available at a much more affordable price. We would now like the pricing to make us more aggressive in the market. Mahindra remains committed to our customers and to the success of the Logan”.

After the price cuts the BS 4 version of the Logan will be available  at Rs 4.89 Lakhs and the diesel version at Rs 5.80 Lakhs, all price Ex-Showroom, Delhi.

Price cuts apart Mahindra also has a succession plan in place for Logan which would see  reduction in length and hence further reduction in price and  newer front end styling with newer, more plusher interiors that will make the Logan more palpable.

With the new emission norms in place, most manufacturers apart from upgrading the engines have also taken this opportunity to relaunch existing models as new one’s with more features inside out.

Latest to join the bandwagon is Tata Motors which has relaunched the Indigo CS (Compact Sedan) as Indigo CS E Series which sports new exteriors looks and upgraded interiors with extra features.

Changes on the exteriors include body colored outside rear view mirrors with embedded turn indicators, new silver grille ( from the Indigo XL) and white alloy wheels. The insides have been refreshed with beige interiors, sporty drilled pedals and bluetooth connectivity. Although there is no mention of the 1.2 petrol engine, the 1.4 litre DICOR diesel engine has been upgraded to meet the new BS 4 standards but again there is no mention of either the power or torque figures.

As we told you earlier, Toyota India have launched the BS4 Innova which now comes with intercooler for the engine meaning more power, 7 bhp of it.

The 2.5 litre common rail turbocharged engine under the hood now develops 109 bhp making it slightly easier for the drivers to overtakes those 18 wheelers on the highway with full load and the airconditioning on. Rest of the things remain the same which means tremendously airy cabin, brilliant ride quality and effective all seat airconditioning, the best people mover in India bar none!.

With the new launch, Toyota has increased the prices by INR 15,000, a small price to pay for extra power and green credentials.

CB Shine now meets Bharat IV norms

Honda has relaunched the Shine 125cc motorcycle which now meets the Bharat IV emission norms and has renamed it CB Shine.

Just like it was with CB Unicorn there is nothing new here apart from the much touted viscous air filter element, new maintenance free battery and new ‘edgy graphics’ and oh before I forget, the 3-D Honda Logo too!

The new Passat comes at a very competitive Rs 19.52 Lakhs!

Volkswagen have launched the new engined variants of the Passat and Jetta in the Indian market. The new engines come as  part of the drive from VW to update the cars to stricter Bharat IV emission norms which would be applicable in all the major metro cities from April 2010.

The Passat now comes with the 1.8 litre four cylinder turbocharged TSI petrol engine which develops a maximum 160 ps of power between 4500 – 6500 rpm and a maximum 250 nm of  torque between 1500 – 4500 rpm and is mated to the new 6-speed transmission. The ARAI certified fuel efficiency figure for Passat is 12.69 kmpl. The new VW Passat 1.8 TSi has been priced at a very competitive Rs 19.20 lakhs, Ex-Showroom Delhi.

The relaunched Jetta 2.0 TDI Comfortline and Trendline  now come with 4 cylinder turbocharged common rail direct injection engine instead of the earlier 1.9 litre pump duse unit. The engine delivers a maximum 110 ps of power @ 4200 rpm and 250 nm of maximum torque between 1500 – 2500 rpm. The engine is mated to a new 5-speed manual gearbox and has an ARAI certified fuel economy figure of 19.53 km/litre. The new Jetta has been priced at Rs 15.92 Lakhs, Ex-showroom, Delhi.

Honda CB Unicorn

Honda has relaunched the Unicorn as CB Unicorn and thats that. This is sorely disappointing since enthusiasts, which includes us, were hoping for a comprehensive upgrade in the form of the Unicron Concept shown at the just concluded Auto Expo 2010.

The biggest change apart from the name is the new viscous air filter which is not only low on maintenance but also improves the air flow to the engine and unfortunately that all. The engine remains exactly the same but now meets the new emission norms which will come into effect from 1st April 2010 and Honda has added a new color – Pearl Siena Red.

The new CB Unicorn has been priced at Rs. 59,285 Ex-Showroom, Delhi.

Royal Enfiled will launch the new Bullet Electra with the new Twin Spark UCE (Unitary Construction Engine) as it prepares for the new Bharat IV emission norms which will come into effect from April 1st, 2010.

The Electra Twin Spark comes with a 350cc single cylinder engine with develops a maximum 19.8 bhp of maximum power @ 5250 rpm and 28 nm of maximum torque @ 4000 rpm. The gearbox is a 5 speed unit and the claimed top speed is 120 kmph.

The Electra Twin Spark UCE has been priced at Rs 94,500 for the Disc Brake variant and Rs. 98,500 for the variant with Disc Brake and Self Start.

New emission norms not only mean cleaner air but also more efficient engines and in some cases more powerful too like in case of the recently launched Fiat Grande Punto 1.2 BS IV variants which is more fuel efficient with ARAI certified figure of 15.2 kmpl.

There are some all new launches too to coincide with the BS IV emission norms like the all new WagonR which will be out by April 15 and new variants of the Santro and i20. Toyota will soon launch the BS IV version of its best selling MUV Innova which will be slightly more powerful than the current variant. Although the engine remains mostly the same, the new emission norm means the addition of an intercooler to the already turbocharged common rail 2.5 litre engine helping it deliver slightly more power and better fuel efficiency. The addition of intercooler also means better performance when the ambient air is hotter, like in the afternoons in summers.

The new Innova BS IV is expected to cost the same as the current car but you never know. Stay tuned for all the updates!
