Ferrari has officially recalled the 458 Italia after a spate of incidents involving the car catching fire. A total of 5 cases of the car catching fire have already been reported from California, France, China and Switzerland.
The culprit according to the company is the glue which is used to secure the wheel arch lining and heat shield. The glue can melt and deform under extreme operating temperatures and can smoke, igniting the wheel arch liner.
The fix involves securing the wheel arch liner with bolts and screws instead of the glue. Ferrari will use the same method to manufacture the future 458 Italia’s.
A total of 1,248 cars have been recalled worldwide. Ferrari has also pledged that it will provide new cars to the owners of the 5 cars which have been destroyed by fire.
