2010 2011 Audi Q7 With 8-Speed Tiptronic Transmission

Audi has quietly launched the upgraded Q7 which now comes with an 8-Speed Tiptronic automatic transmission which replaces the earlier 6-Speed Tiptronic unit like its 2011 European brethren.

The 2011 version of the Q7 was unveiled just recently in the European market with upgraded transmission and uprated diesel and petrol engines with more power and slightly better fuel consumption.

For India, Audi has withdrawn the 3.6 liter V6 and 4.2 liter V8 petrol engines which might be replaced with the all new 3.0 liter supercharged TFSI V6 engine developing either 272 ps or 333 ps in the more powerful version, in due course.

If torque is what you are after then 3.0 TDI might just get you started. The second generation of the TDI engine is practically all new according to Audi with “effectively nothing in common with its predecessor”. The new engine now develops a 240 bhp of power and plentiful 550 nm of torque right from 1750-2500 rpm. The V6 diesel accelerates from 0-100 kph in a claimed 7.9 seconds and has a top speed of 215 kmp. The fuel consumption is equally impressive with the big no the biggest Audi taking just 7.4 litre of the sticky fuel per 100 kms traveled, an improvement of 19%!

Now for some statistics – the new 3.0 TDI weights just 198 kilograms a reduction of 20 kgs over the older engine, has a new chain driven timing gear, a complex cylinder wall machining process which reduces internal friction, more ‘responsive’ turbocharger fir rapid torque build up and an all new fuel injection system which an operating pressure of 2000 bar making the injection spray extremely precise.

The 4.2 litre V8 diesel has been suitably modified too with newer 2000 bar fuel injection system which reduces the fuel consumption from 9.9 to 9.2 liters per 100 kms. The power out remains unchanged at 340 bhp but the maximum torque now stands at 800 nm  between 1750-2750 rpm! It accelerates from 0-100 kph in 6.4 seconds and has a top speed of 242 kmph.

Prices start at Rs 55.65 Lakhs for the 3.0 Liter TDi V6 and Rs 66.95 Lakhs for the 4.2 liter TDi V8.
