India’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki will soon launch the automatic transmission variant of the A-Star in the Indian market. Small car automatics are still a novelty in the country with Hyundai’s i10 being the only other viable option.
The new A-Star automatic will come with a 4-speed automatic transmission and is likely to attract a premium of around 15% over the manual variant. The small foot print coupled with light steering and controls will make the A-Star a perfect choice as a city runabout for the women and elderly.
Indian consumer in the recent past has also shown the inclination to buy automatic cars for ease of driveability making it easier for Maruti to justify the launch. The advancements in the automatic technology have also meant that automatics are no longer considered to be fuel in-efficient and the performance hit isn’t as much.
Maruti Suzuki already manufactures the automatic variant of the A-Star for exports to European and the middle eastern markets. The new A-Star Automatic is expected to cost Rs 50,000 more than the equivalent manual variant. Stay tuned for more!
