Hyundai has made minor improvements to the i20 for the European market. The changes include improved aerodynamics, refreshed interiors and minor changes under the hood to reduce emissions and increase fuel efficiency.
The new i20 comes with a spoiler underneath the car to improve air flow around the wheels while the engines now use low friction engine oil and alternator management system to improve fuel consumption and decrease CO2 emissions. As a result the 1.2 liter petrol engine now emits 5g/km less CO2 at 119 g/km while the 1.4 liter petrol now emits 129 g/km of CO2 down 13 g/km and 4.3 mpg improvement in fuel consumption.
The 75 bhp variant of the diesel now emits 6 g/km lesser CO2 while the 90 bhp variant achieves a 7.2% improvement in fuel efficiency, thanks to the all new 6-speed transmission which Hyundai has also introduced in the i20’s sold in India.
Changes to the interiors are on the lines of the Indian variant with ‘gear change’ indicator, cool blue lightening for the dashboard and the instrument console. What we dont get but they do is Bluetooth connectivity with voice recognition as standard on all models but the base Classic. Considering that the i20 is built exclusively in India and exported to Europe, we would expect Hyundai to provide there extra features to the Indian consumers too.
The car is already facing the ire of the Indian consumers for less than perfect A/C which is just not enough for the Indian summers.
