Mahindra-Xylo-Hatch-Mini-(5-Seat)

Surprise, surprise surprise! Autocar India reader Chandra Prakash Godara has managed to get these spy pictures of the shortened Mahindra Xylo which was going hot weather testing somewhere in Rajasthan.

The Xylo (C)ompact(U)tility(V)ehicle? (ok! we made the CUV thingie) will be sub-four meter in length and will features the miniaturized version of the body on chassis of the Xylo. The 2.5 liter CRDe engine will also be downsized to below 1.5 liters by shaving off one cylinder and reducing bore and stroke which along with shortened length will enable it to qualify as a small car and hence 12% savings in excise duty. The compacted Xylo though will only have two rows of seating which means a maximum seating capacity of five passengers.

The shortened Xylo will also open up a completely new mini SUV segment in India which currently has only one player, the chinese built Premier Rio.

Mahindra is expected to price the new Xylo mini very competitively and we expect it to be around the 4.75-5 Lakh ballpark.

P.S. It might not even be called a Xylo! Just wait and watch!
