Volkswagen has released the first official sketch of its upcoming sedan Vento that is slated to hit Indian roads later this year.
Based on the recently launched Polo hatchback, the Vento will have bigger more powerful petrol and diesel engines and longer wheelbase for more room for the rear passengers. The front fascia will be slightly different with different grille and headlights to differentiate it from its hatchback sibling.
The engineers at Volkswagen have benchmarked the new Vento against the current champion Honda City and are hinting at class leading interior accommodation and a boot space which is said to be in the region of 500 litres. The equipment levels will be higher as well compared to the Honda City which is almost bare bones by today’s standard by not even offering alloys or a CD/MP3 player!
Two engines will be offered – a 1.6 litre petrol engine with 105 bhp of maximum power from the original Jetta suitably modified with dual overhead camshaft and a 4 valve head and a similar capacity common rail diesel engine with identical 105 bhp but a massive 25.5 kgm of turning force.
The new Vento is expected to be priced between INR 7 to 9 Lakhs.
