As we told you earlier, Hyundai has unveiled the 2011 Hyundai Verna (Accent) at the Beijing Motor Show today.
The new sub-compact from Hyundai sports the now standard “fluidic design” sculpture design language and looks like a mini Sonata in profile. The deisgn especially is a radical departure compared to the current car with swept back headlights, coupe like roofline and a swoopy grille at the front.
The new Verna rides on an all new platform with a wheelbase of 2570 mm – one of the largest in its segment and uses high tensile strength steel at strategic locations to improve rigidity and hence crash worthiness. Although the company hasnt mentioned the EURO NCAP score rating for crash worthiness, the press release mentions that Hyundai is aiming for a perfect 5. The new platform also means lower NVH and improved handling.
Power comes from two new Gamma series engine – a 1.4 litre multiport fuel injection with 106 bhp for maximum power and 135 nm of maximum torque and a 1.6 litre multiport fuel injected engine with 121 bhp of maximum power and 155 nm of maximum torque. The 1.4 litre engine will comes with 5 speed manual transmission and the option of a 4 speed automatic while the 1.6 litre engine will come exclusively with the 4 speed automatic transmission only.
The fuel efficiency for the 1.4 manual stands at 5.7l/100 kms while the 1.6 litre with 4-speed automatic consumes 6.2 litres/100 kms.
The chinese production for the new Verna will start in July and the global production will start shortly after.
