Honda Accord has been an instant success ever since the company launched its second generation in India. The recipe is perfect – a good looking spacious car with a nice engine, affordable price tag, oodles of space and cheap for a D-segmenter servicing costs and then you have the ‘Japanese’ label which almost guarantees sterling long term reliability and the deal is almost sealed for most of them out there.
Honda launched the latest generation Accord last year which has gone on to become an even bigger success but things have started to go wrong. The Skoda Superb now offers long list of standard equipment and looks nicer (to some Accord looks Vulgar) and also offers an optional diesel engine. What’s more it also comes with the awesome 6 or 7 speed DSG automatic transmission compared to Honda’s power sapping 5-speed plain vanilla transmission. Further damage came from the recently announced BMW 3-Series corporate edition @ INR 23.95 Lakhs which although omits a few luxuries but is still a ‘BMW’ and is 2.5 Lakh rupees cheaper! It really doesnt matter to most if Accord has more than double the power from its V6 when compared to the 2.0 litre oil burner under the hood of BMW. The brand pull of the German brand is enough to bring the buyers into the showrooms.
To make amends Honda has launched the 2010 Honda Accord with some extra equipments and tid bits to make it more value for money in the eye of buyers which are running away towards other brands and for good reasons. For starters the Accord V6 now comes standard with Sunroof, Ambient Light and Footlight to make the interiors more appealing. Futher, all the Accord variants including the 2.4 MT/AT and V6 will now come with a provision for Mobile phone with bluetooth interface system which has become a sort of standard even in the smaller hatchback and 2 sets of keyless entry for added convenience.
The prices still remain the same. Honda Accord prices start from INR 18,52,000 for the 2.4L MT, INR 19,27,000 for the 2.4L AT and INR 26,15,000 for 3.5L V6, all prices Ex-Showroom, Delhi.

I currently own two Toyota vehicles. Both a Corolla and a Camry. I received a recall notice for each of them last week. I plan on taking both in for the recall modification as about a year ago I had the gas pedal stick on the Camry. I was lucky I didn’t get into an accident, as I noticed the floor mat was the cause of it sticking. Pretty scary at the time, but I have to wonder if the pedals are to low and getting stuck on the floor mats. I sure hope this modification will fix all this mess !!
Any motorist will know that, no matter how much money you pay for a car, how new or old it is, there will always be something that can go wrong. It doesn’t matter how rare the fault is, or how well the car runs most of the time, eventually something can go wrong – and when it does, you often find yourself having to hand over plenty of cash to get it repaired. I’m a huge fan of Honda Accords. My first car was a 93 Accord and it had a ton of miles on on the gauges before I sold it. I’ve had a few varying Accords since then and I’ve always been satisfied.
