First production Figo rolls of the assembly line

Ford will soon launch their all new hatchback the Figo in the Indian market which is their most important launch ever since the company set its foot in India.

It is one car which has the potential and the breath of talents (check out our in-depth review of the Figo very soon!) to catapult Ford into the volume segment of the lucrative B+ segment hatchback market.

The company has rolled out the first production model Figo from its Chennai plant today. The occasion was attended by none other than CM of Tamil Nadu, Mr M Karunanidhi and deputy CM MK Stalin.

Ford has signed a MoU with the Tamil Nadu government in September 2009 under which it would invest an additional  Rs 1,500 crores to expand its production facility. The new investment would also lead to the creation of 1,000 job opportunities in the state.

The Figo will come with two engine options – a 1.2 Litre Petrol engine with 71 ps of maximum power and the 1.4 diesel with 68 bhp of maximum power.

Ford has still not revelaled the pricing of the Figo but we expect it to start from a very competitive Rs 3.5 Lakhs for the base 1.2 Petrol going up to Rs 5.3 Lakhs for the top-end diesel variant with all the bells and whistles including wireless bluetooth connectivity for your mobile phone.
