Tata’s small car Nano which had the whole world talking when it was unveiled, is not going to be cheap in U.S when launched. From its original price tag of $2500 the price will jump to an estimated $8000. The Nano was recently displayed at the Detroit Motor show in its non U.S. road worthy form.
The Nano for US will come with structural changes like longer hood for pedestrian safety, strengthening of the roof, seat changes and better steering. The engine would need improvements too. The current 623 cc twin cylinder engine is too small and too weak for the U.S. freeways.
“The structural changes that would need to be made,” said Warren Harris, Tata Technologies president.
”The changes that would be required as far as emissions are concerned, and some of the features that would be appropriate to add to the vehicle for the North American market, obviously that would drive up the price point”. he added.
