Another instance where a sibling outsmarts the parent! India’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki has surpassed its japanese parent Suzuki in overall production for the year 2009.
The company manufactured a total of 9,66,399 units while the parent Suzuki could only manage 9,08,581 units in 2009. The total production figure also includes the exports which stands at 1,30,688 units, major chuck of which comes from the A-Star which is built exclusively in India.
Maruti sold a total of 8,36,893 units in the domestic market, a figure many two wheeler makers would be proud of, lead by the Alto which sold a massive 2.4 lakhs units followed by the Wagon-R with sales of around 1.4 lakh units.
Earlier this month, the company announced a three fold rise in its Q3 profits for the year 2009 at Rs 688 crore compared to Rs 288 crores a year earlier.
The company currently has a 13 model portfolio in India ranging from cheapest Maruti 800 to the most expensive Grand Vitara SUV.
