Our good friends at worldcarfans have caught the new Land Rover LRX undergoing winter testing in Scandinavia.
The test mule wearing the “Freelander” suit on the outside sported a shortened wheelbase which gave away its origin. While nothing much is known, Land Rover’s design director, Gary McGovern has stated that
“The new vehicle (the LRX) will be a natural extension to the Range Rover line-up, complementing the existing models and helping to define a new segment. It will be true to the concept and have many recognizable Range Rover design cues including the signature clamshell bonnet, the floating roof and the solid ‘wheel-at-each-corner’ stance.”
Engine options for the new LRX are likely to be a 2.2 litre four cylinder turbo diesel with 160 bhp and 400 nm of torque and a 3.2 litre petrol inline six cylinder with 230 bhp and 317 nm of torque. A hybrid version making use of the 2.0 litre turbodiesel is also likely to be announced.
The Land Rover LRX is all set to be scheduled later this year with the global launch in the year 2011.
